Wild (proto)dogs by Kazuma27 Wild (proto)dogs by Kazuma27

My first try with gorgonopsids, from the top to the bottom: Gorgonops (duh!) and Lycaenops. As i said, it's the first time i draw these animals, i've surely made an helluva lot of mistakes...

It's good, but mammalian ears were only present in cynodonts.

Good job! But I very much doubt that gorgonopsians were covered with hair. It's like a t-Rex on cock feathers.

Well, it's not that far-fetched IMHO (gorgonopsid with hair, not a rex with cock feathers); what we know from the few skin impressions of permian proto-mammals, some of them had glandular skin (akin to modern mammals), so why others could not have had proper fur?

Fur appeared in therocephalia and cynodontia. Gorgonopsians were more relatives to dinocephalians, and dinocephalia wool was not.

Anyone remember the discovery of fur and feathers being traced back to a common ancestor? The point is that these life forms have already gotten weird enough, yet strangely familiar to us with these new discoveries, maybe they had at least sparse coverings of hair-like filaments.
